The night before Hanukkah was always exciting in Dinosaur World, and this year was no exception. Avey and Kiki had spent the entire evening helping their dad put up new decorations—dinosaur-shaped menorahs, glowing dreidels, and garlands of tiny lights that looked like dinosaur tracks. The house sparkled with excitement, ready for the holiday festivities to begin.
As bedtime approached, Dad called out, “Alright, girls, time to wind down! Hanukkah starts tomorrow, and you’ll need plenty of energy for all the fun we have planned.”
Kiki, already in her favorite snow leopard pajamas, was sprawled out on the couch, fast asleep from all the decorating. Her curls were a little messy, and her breathing was slow and steady.
But Avey, in her bright yellow pajamas covered in little dinosaurs, was far too excited to sleep. “Dad, I’m not even tired! Can’t we stay up a little longer?” she pleaded.
Dad shook his head with a knowing smile. “Not tonight, Avey. You need your rest. You’ll thank me in the morning.”
Avey sighed but didn’t argue. She climbed into bed and turned out the lights, leaving the house quiet and peaceful.
Midnight Mischief
It was well past midnight when Avey’s excitement got the best of her. She couldn’t stop thinking about all the fun they’d have for Hanukkah—spinning dreidels, eating latkes, opening presents. Tossing and turning in bed, she finally gave up and tiptoed downstairs to get a glass of water.
As she passed the living room, she noticed something surprising. Kiki was sitting upright on the couch, her eyes half-open but glinting with the soft light of the decorations.
“Kiki?” Avey whispered.
Kiki blinked groggily. “Huh? What’s going on?”
Avey’s face lit up. “You’re awake! I wanted to play earlier, but you fell asleep. Let’s play now!”
Kiki rubbed her eyes, still half-asleep, but Avey’s enthusiasm was contagious. “Okay,” she said, yawning. “But just for a little while.”
The two sisters quietly gathered their toys and decided to create their own little Dinosaur Hanukkah world. Using leftover decorations and their favorite stuffed dinosaurs, they built a magical scene: dinosaurs spinning tiny dreidels, a roaring T-Rex guarding the menorah, and stegosauruses serving imaginary latkes on glowing plates.
The sisters giggled and whispered, making up funny stories about their dinosaur toys. They were having so much fun that they didn’t notice how quickly time was passing.
Dad’s Surprise
By the time the clock struck 3 AM, the living room was a whirlwind of stuffed dinosaurs, pillows, and tiny Hanukkah decorations. Avey and Kiki were laughing so hard they could barely breathe when suddenly, a familiar voice interrupted.
“What’s going on here?”
The girls froze. Dad was standing in the doorway, arms crossed but with a slight smile on his face.
“We were just playing,” Avey said sheepishly.
Kiki added, “We couldn’t sleep… and then we started having so much fun.”
Dad shook his head and chuckled softly. “I understand, but it’s 3 AM! If you don’t get back to bed now, you won’t have enough energy to enjoy Hanukkah tomorrow. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on all the fun.”
Avey and Kiki exchanged guilty smiles. “Okay, Dad,” they said in unison.
Dad helped them tidy up their Dinosaur Hanukkah world before tucking them back into bed. “Goodnight, my little adventurers,” he said, turning off the lights. “Dream of all the fun we’ll have tomorrow.”
As Avey and Kiki drifted off to sleep, they couldn’t help but smile. They knew the next day would be filled with magic, laughter, and even more adventures—this time, with the whole family together to celebrate Hanukkah.
The End.
