One sunny Saturday afternoon, Avey was lounging in her room, chatting with her friends on her cell phone. After laughing at a funny video, she set the phone down and went to grab a snack.
When she came back, her phone was gone.
“Where is it?” Avey muttered, looking around her desk. She checked her chair, the floor, and even under her bookshelf. “It was right here!”
The Search Begins
Determined to find her phone, Avey started searching every corner of her room. She checked her toy bin, her dresser, and even her backpack.
“Kiki!” Avey called out. “Have you seen my phone?”
Kiki peeked into the room, her curls bouncing as she walked. “Nope. Did you check your desk?”
“Of course I did!” Avey said, throwing her hands up.
“Maybe the dog took it,” Kiki suggested, giggling.
Avey frowned. “Buddy wouldn’t do that… would he?”
The Accusation
Avey marched into the living room, where their dog Buddy was napping on the rug.
“Buddy,” she said, crossing her arms. “Did you take my phone?”
Buddy opened one eye, wagged his tail, and went back to sleep.
“Hmm,” Avey said, tapping her chin. “It’s not Buddy. Maybe it fell into the couch!”
She checked under the couch cushions and even stuck her hand between the armrests. All she found was a few crumbs and an old pencil.
The Detective Work
“Time to get serious,” Avey said, grabbing a notebook and pencil. She wrote:
1. Phone was on the desk.
2. Phone disappeared after I got a snack.
3. No signs of Buddy being guilty.
“What am I missing?” Avey asked herself, pacing the room.
Kiki poked her head in again. “Maybe it’s in the fridge,” she teased.
Avey glared at her. “Not funny, Kiki!”
But as she turned back to her bed, something caught her eye—a tiny corner of her blanket looked a little lumpy.
The Big Reveal
Avey pulled back her blanket, and there it was—her phone, safe and sound.
“Seriously?” Avey said, laughing at herself. “It was under my blanket the whole time?”
Kiki walked in and burst out laughing. “You were ready to blame the dog, and it was right here?”
Avey rolled her eyes but couldn’t help smiling. “Fine, you were right. But hey, at least I solved the mystery!”
A Lesson Learned
Later that evening, Avey told Dad about her wild phone hunt.
“So, what did you learn?” Dad asked, chuckling.
Avey grinned. “Check the simple places first—like under my blanket!”
Dad nodded. “Good advice. Maybe next time, Buddy will help you find it.”
Buddy wagged his tail, as if he agreed.
As Avey snuggled into bed that night, she kept her phone right on her nightstand, double-checking it before turning off the light.
“Goodnight, phone,” Avey whispered, laughing softly. “You better not disappear again.”
The End
Goodnight, Avey. May all your mysteries be as easy to solve as this one.
