Kiki and the Rainbow Nails

One bright afternoon, Kiki sat at the kitchen table, carefully painting her nails. She had picked the shiniest, sparkliest rainbow nail polish she could find.

“One color isn’t enough,” Kiki said, giggling as she painted each nail a different bright color.

When she finished, she admired her hands. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple sparkled on each nail like tiny rainbows.

“These are the prettiest nails ever!” Kiki said, waving her fingers in the air.

But as soon as she wiggled her fingers, something magical happened.

A soft glow surrounded her hands, spreading up her arms, over her shoulders, and down to her feet.

POOF!

Suddenly, Kiki felt lighter than air. She looked down and gasped—she had hooves instead of feet!

A shimmering unicorn horn had appeared on her forehead, and huge, feathery Pegasus wings stretched from her back.

“I turned into a Pegasus-unicorn!” Kiki shouted, flapping her wings.

She floated right out of her chair and into the air.

Flying Around the House

Kiki zoomed around the house, doing flips and twirls in the air.

“This is amazing!” she cheered, looping through the living room.

MJ and Avey ran in and stared in shock.

“Kiki!” MJ shouted. “You’re flying in the house!”

“I know!” Kiki laughed. “Look at me! I have wings and a horn and I can fly!”

Avey crossed her arms. “That’s cool and all, but it’s dinner time.”

Kiki hovered in the air. “Okay, I’ll come down. I’m starving!”

The Cereal Confusion

Kiki floated into the kitchen and grabbed her favorite cereal. She poured herself a big bowl, ready to chomp it all down.

But before she could take a bite, MJ and Avey gasped.

“Wait a second!” MJ said. “You can’t eat cereal!”

Kiki blinked. “Why not?”

Avey pointed at her. “Because you’re a Pegasus-unicorn now.”

“So?” Kiki asked, frowning.

“Pegasus-unicorns don’t eat cereal,” MJ said seriously. “They eat hay.”

Kiki made a face. “HAY?! Ew! I’m not eating hay!”

Avey smirked. “Well, then you might have to stay a Pegasus-unicorn forever.”

Kiki gasped. “What?! No way! I have to turn back!”

Back to Normal

Kiki wiggled her fingers, hoping she would turn back into herself.

Nothing happened.

She shook her wings.

Still nothing.

Then she looked at her rainbow nails and got an idea.

She grabbed a cotton ball and nail polish remover and started wiping off the rainbow colors.

As soon as the last bit of polish disappeared—

POOF!

Her wings vanished, her unicorn horn disappeared, and her feet were back!

“I’m Kiki again!” she cheered.

She sat down, grabbed her spoon, and took a big bite of cereal.

“Cereal never tasted so good,” Kiki said with a happy sigh.

MJ giggled. “Good thing, or we’d have to get you a pile of hay!”

Everyone laughed, and Kiki wiggled her fingers one last time.

“No more magic nails for now,” she said, smiling. “But maybe next time… I’ll try being a dragon.”

The End

Goodnight, Kiki. May your dreams take you flying through the stars.
