One rainy morning in Toronto, the sky was grey, and the streets were dotted with puddles. Inside their cozy house, Lala, with her long wavy curly hair, was looking out the window with a little sigh. “Rainy day,” she mumbled.
But MJ, with his super bouncy curly hair, was already bouncing with excitement! “Rainy day means puddle jumping!” he declared.
Matthew, their dad, chuckled. “That’s right, MJ! But we need to be safe puddle jumpers. Let’s put on our rain boots!”
Soon, Lala, MJ, and Matthew were all bundled up in their rain gear, ready to face the wet Toronto streets. The air smelled fresh and clean after the rain.
“Look, Lala!” MJ shouted, pointing to a big, shimmering puddle on the sidewalk near a maple tree. “A super-splashy puddle!” He ran towards it and SPLASH! Water went everywhere, but he was giggling.
Lala hesitated. The puddle looked big.
MJ came back. “It’s fun, Lala! Come try!”
Lala took a small step towards the puddle, but she was still a little unsure.
Matthew knelt beside her. “It’s okay to be careful, Lala. Maybe we can try a smaller puddle first?”
They found a little puddle near a fire hydrant. Lala took a deep breath and gently stepped in. Squish! It felt funny and cool. She giggled a little.
MJ, seeing Lala trying, found another small puddle and jumped in beside her. Squish, splash! “See? Not so scary!” he said with a big grin.
They walked further down the street, discovering all sorts of puddles. Some were small and made gentle squish sounds. Others were bigger and went SPLASH! when they jumped in. They even found a long, wiggly puddle that looked like a tiny river flowing along the curb.
“Let’s follow the puddle river!” MJ suggested, and they walked alongside it, pretending it was a mighty waterway.
As they walked, they noticed an elderly woman trying to cross a particularly wide and deep puddle. She looked a little worried.
MJ stopped. “She needs help!”
Lala nodded, her earlier hesitation forgotten.
Matthew smiled proudly. “You’re right, team. Let’s see what we can do.”
Matthew carefully helped the woman step over the deepest part of the puddle, making sure she didn’t get her shoes wet.
“Oh, thank you so much,” the woman said, smiling warmly. “You are very kind children.”
MJ and Lala beamed. Helping felt good!
They continued their puddle adventure, but now, they were also looking for ways to help others navigate the rainy streets. They pointed out smaller, easier-to-cross spots and even warned people about the really big, splashy puddles.
By the time they headed back home for some warm hot chocolate, Lala wasn’t scared of puddles anymore. She had learned that even rainy days can be full of fun and that being kind and helpful to others is the best adventure of all, especially when you’re exploring the puddles of your own Toronto neighborhood with your brother.
