How Avey Overcame a Monday Morning Disaster

It was a peaceful Sunday night, and Avey was snuggled in her bed with her iPad, watching her favorite YouTube videos. The hours ticked by as she laughed at funny animal clips and followed along with craft tutorials. Before she knew it, the clock read 11:47 PM.

“Just one more video,” Avey mumbled sleepily, her long wavy brown hair falling into her face as she yawned. But before she could finish it, her eyes fluttered shut, and she drifted off to sleep with the iPad still resting on her lap.

The Monday Morning Disaster

In her dream, the sun was shining through the curtains, and her dad was calling up the stairs. “Avey, time to get up! It’s Monday, and school’s starting soon!”

Avey groaned and rolled over, pulling the blanket over her head. “I don’t wanna!” she muttered.

Under her blanket, she felt safe and cozy. “Maybe if I stay here, I can skip school today,” she thought. But after a few more minutes, her curiosity got the best of her, and she peeked out.

The clock read 8:15 AM.

“Uh-oh!” Avey shouted. “I’m late!”

She jumped out of bed, threw on her uniform, and sprinted downstairs with her hair a mess and her socks mismatched. Her dad was waiting by the door, holding her backpack.

“Avey, what happened?” he asked. “You’re never late!”

“Blanket monster,” Avey said quickly, grabbing her bag and dashing out the door.

The Essay Surprise

When Avey got to school, she slumped into her seat just as her teacher, Ms. Harris, walked in. “Good morning, class! Don’t forget, your essays are due today, and we’ll be presenting them right after lunch.”

Avey’s heart sank. “Essays?” she whispered to herself. “What essay?”

Her best friend leaned over and whispered, “The one we’ve been working on all week? About our favorite animal?”

Avey’s stomach flipped. She had completely forgotten! “Oh no, oh no, oh no,” she mumbled. She hadn’t written a single word, and now she had to present it to the whole class.

The Presentation Panic

When lunch ended, Avey found herself at the front of the classroom with no essay and no plan. The other kids stared at her, waiting for her presentation.

“Um, my favorite animal is…” Avey started, her mind racing. “A giraffe! Because… they have long necks. And they’re tall. And they eat leaves?”

Her classmates giggled, and Avey’s face turned bright red. “Why didn’t I just write the essay?” she thought, cringing.

The Wake-Up Call

Just then, the classroom started spinning, and Avey heard her dad’s voice calling her name. She jolted awake, her heart pounding.

She was in her bed, still wrapped up in her blanket, and her iPad was lying on the pillow next to her. “It was just a dream!” Avey said with relief. “Thank goodness I didn’t actually forget the essay.”

She stretched and smiled, knowing Monday wasn’t here yet. “This time, I’m setting my alarm, just in case.”

The Real Monday

When Monday morning came, Avey’s alarm didn’t go off. She had forgotten to set it the night before! Her dad called up the stairs. “Avey, it’s time to get up!”

Avey bolted out of bed, feeling a sense of déjà vu. “Not again!” she groaned. She got dressed in a rush, grabbed her bag, and ran out the door—only to realize halfway to school that she’d left her lunch on the kitchen counter.

As she sat in class, her stomach growling, Avey couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, at least I actually wrote the essay this time,” she thought.

The End.
