One rainy afternoon, MJ was sitting by the window, watching raindrops race down the glass.
“Dad, I wish I had superpowers,” MJ said with a sigh.
Dad chuckled. “What kind of powers, buddy?”
MJ’s eyes lit up. “I wanna be like Pikachu! Fast, zappy, and super strong!”
Dad smiled. “Well, you never know… maybe a little magic can happen when you least expect it.”
MJ laughed, but just then—BOOM! A loud clap of thunder shook the house, and a bright yellow flash lit up the sky.
Suddenly, a tiny, glowing spark floated into the room. It zipped around MJ’s head, buzzing like electricity.
“What is that?!” MJ gasped.
The spark twirled in the air and then—ZAP!—it touched MJ’s hand.
A warm tingly feeling rushed through his body, and when he looked down…
His hands were sparking with yellow electricity!
The Pikachu Powers
MJ’s whole body felt light and fast. His hair stood up a little, like static was running through him.
“I got powers!” MJ shouted, bouncing on his feet. “I gotta test this out!”
He ran to the backyard, and with one quick move, he zoomed across the grass faster than ever!
“Whoa! I’m fast like lightning!” MJ said, his eyes wide.
He clenched his fists, and little yellow sparks flickered from his fingertips.
“I wonder if I can do a thunderbolt!”
He pointed his hands at a pile of leaves and focused.
ZAP!
A tiny bolt of electricity shot out, making the leaves crackle.
MJ jumped for joy. “I’M A REAL PIKACHU!”
Too Much Zapping
Excited to show off, MJ ran inside.
“Avey! Kiki! Look at my powers!”
Avey looked up from her book. “What are you talking about?”
Kiki giggled. “Did you eat too many crackers again?”
MJ clapped his hands together, and a little spark popped in the air.
Avey and Kiki’s eyes went wide. “WHOA!”
Kiki jumped up. “That’s awesome! Can you do a big zap?”
MJ grinned. “Watch this!”
He pointed his hands at the light switch and tried to zap it on.
ZAP!
The whole house blinked in and out of power for a second.
Dad ran in. “MJ! What’s going on?”
MJ rubbed his head. “Oops. I think I used too much zap.”
Learning Control
Dad knelt beside MJ. “Electric powers are cool, but you gotta be careful. Too much zap could make things go crazy.”
MJ thought about it. “So I gotta control it?”
Dad nodded. “Exactly.”
MJ took a deep breath. Instead of zapping everywhere, he focused on just making a tiny spark between his fingers.
A soft zap flickered like a firefly.
“I did it!” MJ cheered.
Avey smiled. “You’re getting better!”
Kiki giggled. “But can you charge my tablet with your powers?”
MJ laughed. “Maybe next time!”
The Zap Fades
That night, MJ lay in bed, still feeling the soft hum of electric energy inside him.
But as he drifted off to sleep, the yellow glow around his hands slowly faded away.
When he woke up, he wiggled his fingers.
No sparks. No zaps. No electric power.
“Aww man,” MJ sighed. “My Pikachu powers are gone.”
Dad ruffled his hair. “Maybe the storm gave you a special gift, just for a little while.”
MJ grinned. “Yeah… but next time, I wanna go even faster!”
